Meet Sarah!

I’m a Colorado-based writer, podcaster, and arts marketer, with a passion for unconventional storytelling, detective stories, and rude women. I bring a dynamic, detail-oriented and multidisiplinary perspective to nonprofit public relations and marketing practice, and am skilled at shaping a story across many platforms and many media to engage, entertain or inspire.

I’m currently the Digital Communications Manager at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities, Colorado's 3rd-largest theatre company and multi-use arts organization. I’ve seen a 40% increase on social media engagement and website traffic since taking over those responsibility two years ago, and have been instrumental in a rebranding initiative, a website redesign, video content creation, shifting digital advertising strategy, and ongoing crisis communication during the COVID-19 pandemic. I’m also one of the founding members of the Center’s Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access staff task force. Previous nonprofit experience includes work with Athena Project Arts, Four Mile Historic Park, and an internship with Curious Theatre Company.

Since 2020, I’ve been the co-host and co-creator of the However Improbable Podcast - a Sherlock Holmes book club revisiting the canon with a fresh and feminist perspective. HIP explores Doyle’s famous body of work and the adaptations that it inspired while asking critical questions about queer representation, fan communities, racism in classic literature, and detective fiction’s relationship to policing and justice.

Starting in May 2022, I’ll be serving on the Arvada Arts and Culture Commission, a volunteer position that works with the City of Arvada to support, cultivate, and advocate for a variety of arts, culture, and heritage opportunities throughout our community.

I hold a Master's in Strategic Communication from the University of Denver's Media, Film and Journalism Studies department. My academic interests focus on the intersection of the practice of public relations and activist and not-for-profit social movements, as well as intercultural perspectives in PR practice. I graduated from DU in June 2016. I received a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Environmental Science from Northern Arizona University in 2013, and my background includes multimedia journalism practice and a position as the news director of Northern Arizona's only broadcast television station.

My professional interests include environmental conservation, gender parity in the arts and pop culture, LGBT rights and arts education. I’m an avid hiker and runner, horror novel fan, a dog owner, and loves every unpopular female character out there.
